I am based in Utrecht, the Netherlands, but I am very internationally oriented. I have the Dutch and the Slovak nationality and I grew up in the German part of Switzerland, near Zurich. Currently I am working as a freelance journalist after having worked full time for a Formula One magazine in Amsterdam. I have loved Formula One since I saw Michael Schumacher and Jacques Villeneuve fighting for the world championship in 1997. When I was studying at the School of Journalism in Utrecht, I wrote for a Dutch motor sports website, which enabled me to travel around Europe and cover several races and interview drivers. It was during these early years that I got to know Lewis Hamilton, which was a huge advantage once he became a Formula One world champion. As a Formula One journalist I have traveled around the world and interviewed drivers like David Coulthard, Sebastian Vettel, Nelson Piquet and Lewis Hamilton of course.
However, I have always had other interests besides Formula One as well. My MA American Studies introduced to me the world of international politics, arts & culture and history. I did an internship with two Dutch correspondents in New York City during the American presidential elections in 2008 and that was one of the most exciting things I ever experienced. I have a special interest in the United States and have extensive knowledge about the country's history, political system and art history.
I have written for several English and Dutch publications, like the biggest Dutch newspaper 'De Telegraaf', Formula One magazine 'Formule1.nl', 'Bridgestone', 'New Edition', and now I start a new challenge with writing for Suite101.com. I plan to share my knowledge about Formula One and other sports and write about arts & culture as well. I am currently planning on writing my first book, about Andy Warhol.
Personal interests are capoeira (Brazilian martial art), running, music, (African) American literature and languages (I am currently learning my seventh language).
